A beautiful city of hills and cliffs, Orvieto goes back centuries B.C. and was built on volcanic stone.  The hills and wine country spread for miles and make for lush scenery as you drive through.  The day was spent wandering through town to see their beautiful cathedral and enjoying the view during sunset, followed by a lovely dinner and glass of local wine.
Before we left, we visited the neighboring town of Civita, which is the above photo of the tiny city sitting atop a cliff, in the middle of a canyon, and accessible only by the footbridge you see there.

The bed and breakfast I stayed at was a serene property filled with blooming flowers and a lovely wall of fragrant jasmine.  Owned by a woman named Selita, I sat here in the early morning enjoying my homemade breakfast while listening to the birds chirping and bees buzzing.

Selita was so warm and welcoming, a writer in her late 50's with a sweet disposition.  She had delightful wrinkles around her eyes which- I would not call crow's feet, rather they were happy looking creases, left as signs of joy and laughter accompanying the life that was still vivid behind her glasses.
Selita's husband was gracious and brought me to his living room to show me his collection of clay on which his home stood back in the Etruscan period, remnants that were so abundant when their property was excavated that the museum allowed them to keep much of it.  I held in my hand pieces that dated back to 500 B.C.
His eagerness to share a piece of his history with us visitors from other parts of the world was endearing.

After sundown it was so dark and peaceful that you heard nothing but crickets and saw nothing but fireflies lighting up in the night garden...the kind of moment you just don't get anywhere else.

Ciao, Italia!

Ciao!

I've just returned from beautiful Italy, and traveled from the coasts of Amalfi, to the historic city of Rome, and through the romantic countryside in between.  This is my second time in Italy, and I love getting to know a country better because you can take the time to further appreciate its beauty, without being overwhelmed with all of the site-seeing spots you need to get to.  I fell in love with the country after seeing more of it and it is now one of my top visited places in the world.

My first stop was Cinque Terre, off of the west coast of Italy.  The "five towns" is full of vividly-colored homes and beautiful cliffs.  Lemon trees line the streets, along with orange and olive trees.  The water is a clear deep blue and watching the waves hit the colorful house-line cliffs is a moment in itself.

Being here makes me want to throw on an easy summer dress and stroll the towns, stop for some gelato, and continue on towards the ocean breeze without a care in the world.

Hello all!  If you've been following me on Instagram, you know that I've been traveling around Italy for the past two weeks.  I'm about to head back to New York and share all of my travel adventures with you, but first, as I prepare for my flight, I'm going to share some beauty intel for my fellow travel-fiends.  Share your thoughts in the comments and we'll chat when I get back! x

When you're packing for travel, some of your most important beauty items should be aimed to protect your skin for the flight over, where the air is super drying and without ventilation.

  1.  The #1 key to staying fresh on a long flight: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!  I use an intense night formula on the plane, because really, you can't overdo it.
  2. You can't moisturize until your face is fresh and clean.  Quick and convenient facial wipes are my savior both on the plane and anywhere on-the-go.  Ideal for lazy girls.  Don't worry, no one will see you without your makeup while you're on the long plane ride!
  3. This CC cream slash tinted moisturizer has taken me from the winter through to my warm-weather travels.  It really is super hydrating, and makes me feel less guilty than putting on regular makeup after my skin has been sitting in the stagnant in-flight air.
  4. Dry lips can be guaranteed if you don't apply something proactively, and if you forget to bring something for them, it's the worst!  Bonus for its multi-purpose use on cuticles and touching up brows and dry patches.  See how small mine is?  A little goes a long way.
  5. Did I mention moisturize?  I love Ren because it's free of harsh chemicals and- a personal priority- fragrance-free.
  6. Because we all need a quick touch-up after that rough ride and broken intervals of sleep.
  7. A touch of this puts life back into the ends of my hair (don't apply oil to the roots), and it smells fantastic.

Ps - people forget this- drink plenty of water!  Super important.  None of these products will do you any good if you don't hydrate.  Your body needs it.

What are your travel essentials?  Similar, or completely different? Would love to hear.
Also, I will give away the pictured Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask and Clinique High Impact Mascara to one random commenter!

New Jewels: Rocksbox

Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Today I'm sharing a new way of accessory-hunting, courtesy of Rocksbox.  Truth be told, I'm not the greatest when it comes to shopping ahead for accessories.  Oftentimes I'll make an outfit, and realize after the fact that I don't have the right accessories to go with it, or that an extra piece is needed to keep the outfit from looking too bare.  So when I heard about Rocksbox, the concept sounded perfect for me.

It's a monthly selection of pieces sent to you, tailored specially to your personal style with the help of Rocksbox stylists.  When you receive the items in the mail, you get to trial them for as long as you like, then swap them out for new pieces anytime you want! If they picked pieces that you love, you can purchase them at the insider price.  Plus they give you $10 of "shine spend" to use towards a purchase each month.

How easy is that?

Confession: I'm a bit of a commitment-phobe.

Luckily for me, and anyone else with the same condition, you can opt out at any time, no strings attached.  That said, I'm loving my new goods so much that I'm not quite so concerned about that phobia anymore.

Ps.  Reversible necklace.  Love.

Here's the best part.  Sign up with my code stylophylexoxo and you get your first month free.  Is that sweet or what? Go forth and accessorize yourselves!

Have a fab Tuesday!

Time for an escape...

Dress - Haute Hippie
Shoes - Delman

I'm loving these warmer days, but the back and forth of sun to clouds to heavier jacket-requiring climate is such a tease.  I think it's perfect time to sneak away for a long weekend and enjoy some time on a quiet island.  Uniform of choice? Long, flowy, light dresses that let the ocean breeze flow through leave the humidity as a passing thought.
