Get-Away with Style

/

When I travel, I like to bring pieces that are versatile, and also outfits that require minimal thinking or fuss.  For this reason, I'm a big fan of one-pieces.  Not only is it an instant outfit without having to think of what to match it with... It makes for lighter luggage to haul around airports as well.  This pretty little corset one-piece from Haute Hippie is one of these said pieces, and I brought with me to Curacao for just that reason.  Well, that and the fact that I was packing last minute and this was easy to throw into my luggage at 3am, mere hours before my  international flight.

A Recap of shows I attended on Days 2 and 3 of NYFW SS15:

Stella Nolasco - Elegant and sophisticated gowns with lots of texture, sheer lace, embroidery, and full bodied gowns that were both classic and modern at the same time.  Beautiful details on both front and backs of the dresses including feathers, interesting cut-outs, and buttons slightly reminiscent of the Victorian era.

Basic pieces with the focus on intricate necklaces and creative accessories by Treasure Hur, and creative, geometric patterns and unconventional cuts by Bea Rodriguez Suarez at the Swimwear Collective.

William Opko featured a public-school girl look in the Old School Gym on Mulberry street, with some 60's influence.  Colors were pastels, peaches, soft blues and pale greens, with some neon lime.  Hair reminded me of Angelica's doll Cynthia from the Rugrats - but in a fun, braided, less finger-in-electric socket kind of way.  

Yuna Yang - Ethereal and flowy, with retro influence, the models gracefully walked in the setting of the Alvin Ailey Dance studio as if they had belonged there all along.  There were many all-white dresses, and well as pinks, purples, and beautiful blues.  I really loved the feminine details in this collection.  Though I may have also been a bit partial as I loved the familiarity of sitting in a dance studio.

I'm happy to be sharing a series of blog posts that will be up on HauteHippie.com, with outfit details all here on my blog.  Haute Hippie is a brand I love because their clothes speak to me and my style with its range of pieces from silky and elegant to edgy-cool.  I am loving their new fall looks and want to share how they're inspiring me for the season.  See my first part of the series, a Style Q&A, here.  

When one thinks of fall wardrobe, the quintessential piece is always the leather jacket.  When searching for the perfect one, I go through tons of sites and stores before I decide.  There are so many options!  And I'm not a plain leather jacket kinda girl ;) This one though.. buttery soft to touch but tough enough to withstand some wear...it caught my attention.  I think you can see it for yourself, but the depth of the rich red color is amazing.  Red is a big color this season, and it goes perfectly with my suede Madewell booties (similar here, here, and here).  This is a look I'm going to be living in through autumn.

For me, NYFW started on the preceding Wednesday, where I went to see the Wenqi Wu SS15 collection - and it was an impressive one to start off with.  Wenqi's pieces were creative and unconventional with abstract lines, geometric patterns, and beautiful textures.  The pieces showed off materials like silk organza and lightweight lambskin that played unexpectedly yet harmoniously in structured layers, and asymmetry with some menswear-inspired looks - I loved the one-piece jumpsuit with asymmetric lapel.
Day 1 started off with the CuteCircuit show, which displayed a futuristic, fashion-forward collection of 'wearable.  They demonstrated pieces which were adorned with electric patterns that can be changed with a push of a button, therefore giving many options for each piece worn.  The lights patterns were embroidered onto flexible, wearable clothing.  This reminded me very much of the type of futuristic fashion discussed at the panel at Gizmodo: Home of the Future that I saw earlier this summer, and it was interesting to be seeing theories discussed coming to life right before my eyes. 
Honor showcased pieces that were retro/mod-inspired, yet very modern at the same time.  There were retro-floral prints, swirled patterms, and 60's style dresses, with a pastel color palette.  
As always, Desigual was a fun, upbeat show with Adriana Lima opening and working the crowd, and fun florals with matching attitudes throughout. 
Hair in many of the shows was simple and straight, and a beauty trend that I loved was the thick, can't-miss electric blue liner.  If you saw my previous post, this was what my makeup look was inspired by.  I usually do a colored lower-lid, but I decided to go a bit bolder and thicker with the blues after seeing the shows.

What to wear to fashion week? A never-ending question with infinite possibilities.  The answer is quite standard though: Something you can look fabulous in but still tolerate for the long hours of the day.  A little fringe to make you stand out from the rest, balanced with comfortable trousers.  Some colorblock and a sexy heel with some elastic give. 
As often happens, I had no plan for an outfit but decided to combine two different bodysuits and ended up with a new and creative look on top.  I did a lot of skirts in the previous season, so pants were a nice change.  And how great is the cape? It wears like a vest, so that it stays on and moves with me wherever I go. 
Lastly, let's talk about that clutch.  A vintage find that my friend lent to me.  She is doing a great thing, using fashion to raise funds for nurses to go abroad and offer their much-needed help in third world countries.  Her organization is called Purses for Nurses, and I am so happy to support something that has incorporated two of my passions - nursing/healthcare and fashion.  Read more about it here, or just go the shop to get your hands on this one-of-a-kind clutch (lots of inquiries about it this past week!).
